Messenger Bag Making Workshop with Mary Louise
March 25 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm£45
Messenger Bag Workshop
During this one day workshop Mary-Louise will guide you through the various steps and process that will enable you to create your own messenger style bag.
A core pattern will be provided that will allow you some flexibility over the final design aspects of it.
Specific making techniques that will be covered are
Laying out the pattern and cutting the different fabrics used.
The use of interfacing, fusible or sew in.
Inserting a gusset.
Dealing with thick multi layered fabrics.
Using bag making components such as metal feet, Rectangular or D rings, Swivel clips and magnetic closures.
Inserting a lining.
You will need
1.2m of 150cm wide medium weight fabrics such as canvas, wool, wool blends, denim, corduroy or synthetic suede.
80cm of 115cm wide lining fabric cotton or synthetic.
1.6m of 46cm wide interfacing. Consider your fabric and the level of sturdiness that you wish for in your bag when choosing interfacing. Fabrics with body don’t need as firm an interfacing as fabrics with less body. Softer fabrics need firm interfacing.
For the straps – if they are to be adjustable, 2 swivel clips and 2 rectangular or D rings. You could also purchase webbing as an alternative to making your own straps, enough for one shoulder strap.
To close the bag either 4 rectangular or D rings, or 2 magnetic closures.
If you would like feet on the bottom of the bag you will need 4 of these.
Matching machine thread.
A basic sewing kit. It would be advantageous if this included quilting clips.
